What permissions do members have in the Department of Veterans Affairs GitHub organization?
The following permissions are explicitly granted to organization members:
- Members may create new internal or private repositories.
- Repository admins may archive or un-archive a repository.
- Members have the ability to view all repositories whose visibility is set to internal only.
- Members may only view private repositories for which they have been explicitly granted at least
read
permissions on. - Members may create new teams within the organization.
- Team maintainers may add or remove members from a team.
- Team maintainers may add or remove repositories from a team for which they are also an admin of the repository.
- Team maintainers may delete a team.
The following permissions are not explicitly granted to organization members:
- Members may not fork private or internal repositories, this is to prevent the proliferation of sensitive information.
- Members may not delete repositories or transfer repositories out of the organization, this is to preserve historical engineering decisions and ensure that federal records are maintained in accordance with federal law.
- Members may not change the visibility of a repository and must submit a support ticket in the GitHub User Requests repository to request a repositories visibility be changed.
- Members may not request that a repository be made public without meeting certain requirements. This is to ensure that the repository is properly vetted before being made public. To request a repository be made public, please see the Public Repositories guide.
