Requesting an Email Alias

How do I request an email alias?

The VA now maintains two instances of GitHub Enterprise Cloud (GHEC). Because of this, your @va.gov email address may be reserved for the new instance of GHEC, called Enterprise Managed Users.

If you require access to the department-of-veterans-affairs organization in the VA’s public GHEC enterprise, you must request an Active Directory email alias to be created for your VA email address. This will allow you to create your GitHub.com account with a separate unique @va.gov email address.

To request an Active Directory email alias, follow the steps below:

  • Open a YourIT Email Permissions ticket and request for an Active Directory email alias to be created for your VA email address with the following template:

I am requesting an Active Directory email alias to be created for my Active Directory account. This is required as we are using cloud-based software from a 3rd-party vendor where we must register an account with two separate instances that require unique email addresses for each account for security purposes.

I am requesting the following email alias be created for my Active Directory account:

<insert your VA username here>_ghec@va.gov

Thank you.

  • Replace <insert your VA username here> with your VA email address.
  • Once you have received confirmation that your Active Directory email alias has been created, proceed to Step 2: GitHub.com Account and use your new Active Directory email alias to create your GitHub.com account.
